My Steals at Target, 9/15

There are some great deals to be had at Target this week, scoring you some cheap breakfast and dinner items!! Today I got $53.05 worth of groceries (and a couple cleaning supplies). After coupons and GC, I paid only $17.61 OOP!! Wahoo!! I kept my OOP low by doing 2 transactions.

Transaction #1 was the 5 boxes of Kashi deal (used 4 $1.50 MQs and 1 FREE box MQ, all from a Vocalpoint mailer). Paid $6.24 OOP and got back a $5 Target Gift Card.

Transaction #2 got me all the rest pictured for just $11.37 after using the $5 GC from Trans. #1

Both kids have decided they love spaghetti so we've started a new "tradition" around here of Spaghetti Sunday, so we're stocked pretty well for that. And I certainly won't have to worry about buying cereal for a VERY, VERY long time. Please, Target!! NO MORE CEREAL DEALS!!!

Wow, another decent week at Walgreens, too! Looks like I have some shopping to do!! Remember, to maximize your savings, do several smaller transactions, "rolling" your Register Rewards from transaction to transaction. Two vital rules to keep in mind when doing so:

1. RRs are considered Manufacturer Coupons. You cannot have more coupons than items, so make sure that you add some cheap "filler items," if needed.

2. You cannot "roll" like RRs, meaning that if you buy the True North crisps and receive back a $3 RR, you cannot use this $3 RR to purchase more True North (Well, you can, but your new $3 RR will not print.) More Target Savings for me!!

So I had to leave work early today due to a sick child. I'll bore you for a bit with my doc office/pharmacy frustrations. Bare with me:

So the only appointment I could get with the pediatrician was 5pm. Yuck! So I picked up my 2 year old and headed to the office. I waited for 30 minutes before being seen, then it took forever with the doc. Didn't leave till 6pm!! Oh, about 3 minutes before we walked out the door, they gave him a loading dose of oral steroids (croupy cough). We're walking to the car and he thows up all over me! Lovely!! So much for that steroid dose. Target was right across the street, so I ran in there to get his script filled (which, by the way, was killing me because I had a "$10 GC with new prescription" coupon that I wanted to use at CVS, but at this point, there was no way I was making a special trip over there just for that. Then, what does my mom tell me later when I'm relaying this story? There was a $10 Target pharmacy coupon in this week's ad--totally missed it because I didn't bother buying a paper since there were no coupons! UGH!)

So I dropped off my scripts and they said it would be 15 minutes. Did some shopping, went back; still not ready. Waited in line to check out, went back, still not ready. Waited 10 more minutes STILL not ready. I was fuming!! All in all I waited for 45 minutes for scripts with a hungry 2 year old and a near-death baby who just wanted his meds so he could go home and go to sleep! I should SO call and complain. Okay, thanks for listening to my rant. On a more positive note, I did get a few more deals in while there, as you can see from the pic above. I used my $5 gift card from the Fiber One deal I did a couple days ago. Total OOP: $2.41 for all!! PLUS, I got another $5 Target GC!!

(On a side note for all of you moms out there--my 2 y/o son LOVES the carmel delight cereal. Free, healthy, AND kid-approved?? Can it get any better?!)

So, I was leaving Target at 7pm and was starved so I bought myself a pizza; $4.27, people!! I had to laugh at the irony of my cart full of the above items for $2 and my measly little pizza for over $4! How wrong is that??!!

I ran into PetCo to see if they have the 5oz Chef Michaels dry dog food pouches. If you remember, there was a "FREE bag" coupon in the 8/23 RP and I can't seems to find these anywhere!!! I guess the only place I haven't checked is PetSmart and I wonder if they carry it there b/c I think they had an ad in that insert....have any of you found these anywhere??

NO Coupon Inserts this Sunday!!

Here's a piece of couponing 101 wisdom: The most traditional way to obtain manufacturer coupons is via the Sunday paper. But if you don't subscribe, don't waste your time running to the quick shop in the morning...there will be no inserts in this weeks paper!! There are inserts each week, with the exception of holiday weekends. Now, Procter & Gamble has surprised us before and slipped their insert in unexpectedly, but because we got one from them last week, I don't anticipate there will be another. Another little piece of couponer's wisdom: there is a website you can use to actually preview the upcoming inserts!! It's called Taylor Town Preview, and they actually have the insert schedule available as well. Check it out!! (*You'll notice we are scheduled to get the P&G this week, but like I said, our region received ours last week, so I'd just check before you buy*)

A Word of Warning:

As many of you are probably "stock-pilers" like me, you may want to double check your Eggo products, as there is a recall out for certain Kellogg's products. Read more below:

"A number of Kellogg’s products are being voluntarily recalled after inspectors found Listeria monocytogenes in a sample of buttermilk Eggo waffles made an at Atlanta plant, the Georgia Department of Agriculture said today.

The sample was taken during a routine inspection at the Kellogg’s plant at 5601 Bucknell Dr. in Atlanta. This product was not shipped into the marketplace, and no illness has been reported.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Kellogg’s is voluntarily recalling a limited number of the following products produced in the same facility,” the department said in a statement. The recalled products are Eggo Cinnamon Toast waffles sold in packages of 10 with the UPC code 3800040440 and labeled with “Best If Used Before” dates beginning with: NOV22 10 EA, NOV23 10 EA and NOV24 10 EA. Also being recalled are Eggo Toaster Swirlz Cinnamon Roll Minis sold in packages of eight, with the UPC code 3800023370 and “Best If Used Before” dates beginning with NOV15 10 EA."
